Virginia Farnsworth-Grodd

Virginia is a Clinical Psychologist who works with people navigating complex emotional experiences and life transitions. Many of the people she sees feel overwhelmed, stuck, or under pressure — whether from anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship strain, work pressures or the cumulative impact of stress over time.

She has particular expertise in alcohol and drug-related difficulties and their impact on individuals and families, including legal concerns and relationship strain. She also works with OCD, PTSD, performance anxiety, and the psychological impact of physical health conditions including cancer and tinnitus. Virginia supports professionals and individuals facing high work demands, burnout, interpersonal tensions, and experiences of conflict or bullying, helping them find clarity and steadiness in the midst of pressure.

Virginia is known for her thoughtful, calm presence and her ability to listen deeply. She offers a space where people can slow things down, feel genuinely understood, and begin to make sense of what has been difficult or confusing. From there, she works collaboratively with clients to develop practical, meaningful ways forward.

Her work is grounded in evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing. She is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) and provides training in this.

Virginia has worked is a Clinical Advisor with Health New Zealand’s Community Alcohol and Drug Services (CADS Waitematā). She provides supervision to senior health professionals. She has also taught extensively at university level, including designing and lecturing the interdisciplinary course Musicians’ Health, reflecting her longstanding interest in performance, wellbeing, and the mind–body connection.
