Andrew DiBenedetto
MASW, ANZASW, DAPAANZ (Provisional)
Andrew is a Registered Social Worker. He graduated from Massey University’s Master’s Degree program in Applied Social Work. He specialises in alcohol and drug problems, anger, grief, relationship challenges, life transitions, self-doubt, and periods of feeling stuck. He offers a safe, affirming space for people in the rainbow community and works with adults who want to understand themselves more deeply and make meaningful change in their lives.
Andrew works relationally, with a strong focus on the quality of the therapeutic relationship. He draws on Psychodynamic approaches, Transactional Analysis, Attachment Theory, Systems Theory, mindfulness-based practices, and DBT- informed skills to support emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. He is a deep listener who pays attention to what is said, what is left unsaid, and what sits between the lines, helping people make sense of complex or chaotic thoughts and feelings in ways that feel clear and manageable.
His areas of expertise reflect his wide-ranging interests. Andrew became a Hot Yoga teacher in 2012, which deepened his understanding of the mind–body connection on a somatic level. From 2016–2024, he worked in an intensive inpatient therapeutic community, supporting individuals and their families affected by substance use and trauma. He now works full-time assisting people to process and move through trauma and high-stress events.
